Clinical Trials

East Sydney Doctors Clinical Trial Unit has participated in research for over 15 years, with a big focus on major national and international HIV trials and more recently in Hepatitis. The Clinical Trials Unit conducts studies in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and universities. All studies are reviewed and approved by a Human Research Ethics Committee.

Clinical trials confirm whether medicines are safe and effective to introduce as new treatments for a particular disease or condition. Clinical trials may also be used to determine whether an existing medicine can be safely and effectively used for other diseases and/or conditions. During a trial people volunteer to test new treatments as a means to prevent, detect, treat or manage various diseases or medical conditions. Some investigations look at how people respond to a new treatment and what side effects might occur. This helps to determine if a new treatment works, if it is safe, and if it is better than what is already available.

We offer clinical trial participation in multi-centre, national and international clinical trials run by Pharmaceutical Companies and National collaborative groups such as hospitals and / or the National Centre in HIV Epidemiological and Clinical Research
